For the first time since the Virgin Mary’s request at Fatima in 1925, the entire Church of a country will gather around the Blessed Virgin to answer her call!
In fact, all the bishops of Burundi, along with tens of thousands of faithful, will gather on Saturday May 3 at Mugera in the sanctuary of Mary Queen of Peace to fulfill the request of Our Lady of Fatima: confession, communion, rosary and meditation, in reparation for the offenses committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
A whole country mobilized
Dozens of coaches will be chartered thanks to the Jubilee organization, and a request for donations has been made to finance them. Burundi is one of the poorest countries in Africa. Many people will not hesitate to walk for several days, or even a week, to have the grace to experience this great event.
As on the eve of the1st Saturday in April at La Grande Chartreuse, the faithful will be staying up all night to prepare their souls! The faith that reigns in this country is truly magnificent and an example!
Renewed consecration
Burundi was the first African country to consecrate itself to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1961. The bishops have therefore chosen to renew Burundi’s consecration to the Virgin Mary. This moment will be all the more significant as 2025 is also the centenary of the first two priestly ordinations in Burundi.

The importance of a peace initiative in this region of Africa
The Great Lakes region of Africa (Uganda, Rwanda, DR Congo and Burundi) has been devastated by war for 30 years. Estimates put the death toll at nearly 10 million, more than in the1st World War in Europe. Among the victims are bishops, hundreds of priests and religious, and millions of Christians. Many were martyred, as some were executed for their faith.
Presidential elections
What’s more, this Saturday1st takes place against the backdrop of Burundi’s new presidential elections, a period which always generates significant internal unrest, adding to the external risks. The Christians of Burundi are aware of the importance of asking for heaven’s protection through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, in accordance with her request at Fatima.
If Our Lady has chosen Burundi for this Jubilee, it is undoubtedly because it is the first African country to have consecrated itself to Her.

May the Church in every country follow Burundi’s example!
In this way, the Peace of the Risen Christ can reign throughout the world!
” From the practice of this devotion [on the 1st Saturdays of the month], united to the consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, depends for the world peace or war…”.
